PUBLIC LIBRARIES AND INTERNET ACCESS

Very few public libraries exist within Ethiopia, schools lack basic resources such as books, and the internet only reaches approximately 3% of the country's population.  We need to bridge that digital divide!

DEGALE PUBLIC LIBRARY AND COMPUTER CENTER

WEEMA constructed the the first public library in Tembaro.  The library has a large reading room and a computer lab with 27 workstations and internet.

In the center of the market square stands a majestic 600 year-old fig tree, affectionately called Degale by the local people.  The tree has been a source of wisdom, community gathering, and spiritual guidance for generations, with local decisions and negotiations often made under this tree.  Named in honor of the old fig tree, the Degale Public Library is a place of knowledge, learning and growth.
