WEEMA's 2018 Staff Retreat

WEEMA’s Annual Staff Retreat took place in April and brought together the entire WEEMA team from the U.S. and both Ethiopian offices.

This meeting was a terrific opportunity for staff to hear from all the different program areas and to present a holistic view of WEEMA’s work. There was also plenty of time for team bonding, including a competitive soccer match. We can’t wait until next year’s Retreat!

WEEMA is excited to announce a new partnership with the Peace Corps!

We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to allow a Peace Corps volunteer, Helene, to join the WEEMA team for one year. Helene will to extend her stay in Ethiopia for a third year to live in the community and support our digital health work with health extension workers.

Welcome to the team, Helene!  We are thrilled to have you.

Students in the Lesley University School of Education teamed up to write books for children in Ethiopia.

Four teams each wrote and illustrated an original story, focusing on aspects of daily life familiar to children in Ethiopia. The books centered around themes ranging from coffee and birds to Vervet monkeys and enset (a plant native to Ethiopia and referred to as false banana).

Books will be printed in local languages and distributed to kindergartens and primary schools in 2018!

A WEEMA-sponsored team from Tembaro traveled south to Arba Minch to visit a rehabilitation center.   This trip was part of WEEMA's ongoing work to raise awareness, destigmatize, and include the voices of people living with disabilities as part of local political agenda.

The experience made quite a impression and renewed the commitment to address the rights of people with disabilities.
