The library provides a quiet study space to serve over 1,200 students.

Students can browse shelves filled with textbooks and supplemental materials to complete their lessons. An internet-equipped computer lab equipped will open doors to global educational resources for the community of Keleta. Preparatory students will have the resources they need to study for the mandatory national exam to attend university.

WEEMA is building Keleta High School Library following community efforts to expand the school to serve 11th and 12th grade.

WEEMA brings tablets to two new kindergartens

On Monday, WEEMA began to implement our digital literacy project in two community-based kindergartens!

The schools selected for the digital literacy program, Hodo and Gaecha kindergartens in the Tembaro district, were built by the community to meet the needs of their children. Both were provided with tablets to serve a group of 240 kindergarten students who attend in two shifts.

The tablets function as an interactive workbook by supplementing lessons taught by the teacher. They are loaded with math, science, reading and art curriculum developed for each day of the school year.

Two students share each tablet and work together to complete the lesson or assignment. The photos reveal how this teaching method encourages peer-to-peer learning.

WEEMA is excited to bring innovative approaches to education, and can’t wait to see these kindergartners progress in their reading!

Happy High Schoolers- 11th and 12th grades at Keleta

Keleta High School is now expanding to include 11th and 12th grade!

For years, Keleta had only 9th and 10th grade at its secondary school.  In order to finish 11th and 12th grades, students from this rural village needed to rent rooms away from home in Mudula town order to finish their high school education.  Now Ethiopia's Southern Region Educational Department has given the community permission to add 11th and 12th grades to its school- but only if certain criteria are met. This a really BIG deal!

In order to meet these criteria, the community needed to raise money. They came together and hosted a community day where people donated whatever they could such as agricultural goods, livestock, etc.  And they did it!  Criteria met!

WEEMA is honored to play its part in this community effort and will help with the construction of a new library and computer center.

Happy Studying, Keleta Kids!  One step closer to University...
